Covenant House Georgia has announced Kara Stimpson as its new CEO, starting August 24. Stimpson was the unanimous choice of the search committee after a national effort evaluating nonprofit leaders.
Background and Experience
Most recently, Stimpson served as CEO of Helping People Succeed, a Florida nonprofit providing early childhood education, child abuse prevention, mental health, and disability services to over 8,000 individuals annually. Previously, she was chief impact officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, where she developed and scaled an innovative school-based mentoring model.
Stimpson also spent nearly two decades in Atlanta Public Schools as a teacher, principal, and district leader, establishing Georgia’s first school-based Wraparound Center in a middle school.
Mission and Goals
“From our very first conversation, Kara’s passion for the young people we serve was unmistakable,” said Ben Deutsch, chair of the CHGA board. “She is an innovative, mission-driven leader whose career as an educator, administrator, and nonprofit executive has given her a unique perspective on the challenges facing young people and how to help them thrive.”
Stimpson will lead a team of 94 staff members and work with a 24-member board, over 2,400 volunteers, and 3,500 donors. Covenant House Georgia serves over 1,100 young people annually, providing housing and comprehensive supportive services that empower youth to build stable, independent lives.
