Pueblo, Colo. – After a brief paperwork setback, crews are now milling the two‑mile portion of Court Street that runs from City Center Drive to 24th Street. The work, overseen by the city’s public works department, signals the last major road‑repair effort of the 2026 paving season.
Project details and timeline
Deputy public works director Molly Evans explained that the delay stemmed from the time needed to secure a licensed contractor for the Court Street repaving. “The paperwork required for the contractor to be licensed caused a short postponement, but crews finally began milling on Monday,” Evans said.
Court Street is a key artery for drivers heading downtown, with much of the corridor operating as a one‑way, southbound route. The repaving will improve travel safety and smoothness for commuters and local businesses alike.
Related street projects
While Court Street work is underway, a similar repaving effort on nearby Elizabeth Street – extending from City Center Drive to 29th Street – has been pushed back to next year. Evans noted that “it’s too late in the paving cycle to start another major project” this season.
Earlier this spring, Pueblo completed two additional repaving projects: a mile at the north end of Jerry Murphy Road and a mile of 6th Street between Interstate 25 and Midtown Circle, both of which cut through the southwest portion of downtown.
Impact on downtown traffic
Residents can expect temporary lane reductions and detours along Court Street while milling and resurfacing are completed. The city will post signage and update its website with real‑time traffic information to minimize inconvenience.
“We appreciate the patience of our community as we finish these essential improvements,” Evans added. “The completed pavement will enhance safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike and support the continued vitality of downtown Pueblo.”
