With FIFA revealing which national teams will play World Cup 2026 fixtures in North Texas, a key remaining question is whether any of those sides will choose the region as their main training base.

World Cup Base Camp Locations

AT&T Stadium — to be called Dallas Stadium for the tournament — is set to host nine matches.

Among the teams expected to appear there in the group stage are England, the Netherlands and Japan. Much of the spotlight, however, is on Argentina, the nation Lionel Messi will represent.

North Texas will offer five primary base camp sites for participating squads, and many local supporters are hoping Argentina will select one of them.

The North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee is optimistic about that possibility.

Dan Hunt, president of FC Dallas, said no decisions have been finalized about an Argentine base camp.

The committee notes that teams typically confirm their base camp choices in early spring.

One major consideration is whether a host city can satisfy each nation’s specific requirements.

Hunt explained that every federation has unique needs and teams choose base camps in the order of their world ranking — with Spain and Argentina picking first — so the committee’s immediate task is working with those federations to meet their requests and ideally attract top-tier programs.

Another pressing item for organizers is installing natural grass at AT&T Stadium within about two months.

Chad Estis of the Dallas Sports Commission said the work goes beyond laying turf, noting plans for lighting upgrades and expanding the playing surface in the corners by removing some field-suit areas — a construction effort similar to projects other NFL venues have undertaken. He added that the exact timing for the pitch installation will be determined closer to the tournament.
