Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Copper Intelligence Inc. (OTCID: CUAI), a publicly traded U.S. copper exploration company, announced significant progress on its Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) assets as global copper prices hover near all‑time highs.
Record copper prices drive demand
COMEX copper futures surged to an intraday peak of about $6.90 per pound in early August 2026 and have since settled in a $6.50‑$6.70 range. Analysts attribute the rally to booming demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure, data centers, electrification projects, and limited new mine supply. The London Metal Exchange also reported copper trading above $14,300 per metric ton, approaching historic levels.
Butembo project advances
On August 27, Chairman Andrew Groves and President Alan Kessler presented an update at the Clean Energy & Metals Virtual Investor Conference. The company disclosed new drill core data from its flagship Butembo copper project in eastern DRC, where drilling has been extended along strike to test the continuity and scale of mineralization. Additional drill holes (numbers 8 through 11) are expected to yield results by the end of August.
Broader DRC footprint
Copper Intelligence has broadened its DRC presence by acquiring the Kitungu Exploration License (PR‑15880) in the southern Copper Belt and forming a strategic joint venture with Canada’s CoTec Holdings Corp. to process historic copper tailings in the country. The DRC now accounts for roughly 65% of newly announced global copper reserves, positioning the company as the first stand‑alone, DRC‑focused copper firm listed in the United States.
Alignment with U.S. policy
The company’s activities dovetail with the July 2026 U.S. Executive Order “Securing America’s Defense Supply Chains and Ensuring Domestic Acquisition of Critical Materials,” which encourages reliance on domestic and allied sources of critical minerals such as copper and seeks to reduce dependence on adversarial supply chains.
“Copper has become one of the most strategic commodities of the modern economy, underpinning electrification, renewable energy, electric vehicles, AI infrastructure, data centers, and defense technologies,” the company said, noting the strong demand and constrained new supply as key tailwinds for its DRC‑focused strategy.
