Coppell parents launch viral ‘Carpool Cheer Up’ to brighten school‑line waits

When the new school year began, a group of dedicated parents at Wilson Elementary in Coppell, Texas, decided to tackle the everyday stress of the morning car‑pool line. Co‑presidents of the school’s Parent Teacher Organization, Ali Shakesby and Olivia Bale, introduced the “Carpool Cheer Up” – a light‑hearted routine that mixes upbeat KidzBop music with simple dance moves.

From idea to internet sensation

“How many ways can you tell someone to pull forward?” Shakesby recalled, explaining the playful spirit behind the project. The moms filmed a short video of volunteers demonstrating the routine, posted it to social media, and the clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 10 million views and counting.

“It was crazy. We just had no idea something like that would happen,” Shakesby said, noting the unexpected reach of a local effort.

Welcoming a merged community

The timing of the initiative was significant. Many of the children now attending Wilson Elementary transferred from Pinkerton Elementary, which the Coppell Independent School District closed after the 2024‑2025 school year due to budget cuts. Bale emphasized that the “Carpool Cheer Up” was more than a fun video; it was a way to make those students feel included.

“The first year was hard, when we were kind of merging two different communities. After the year passed and the second year started, it’s felt more like people just have settled in,” Bale explained.

Volunteers wanted for the next round

Buoyed by the positive response, Shakesby and Bale are now planning a follow‑up event they call the “Carpool Cone.” They are actively seeking additional volunteers to help organize and lead the next round of activities, hoping to keep the momentum going and continue fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all families.

Parents and teachers alike have praised the effort, noting that a little music and movement can transform a routine chore into a moment of community building. The “Carpool Cheer Up” exemplifies how grassroots parent involvement can strengthen school culture, especially during periods of transition.

How to get involved

Families interested in joining the next Carpool Cone can contact the Wilson Elementary PTO through their official website or attend the upcoming PTO meeting scheduled for next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Organizers encourage anyone with a love for music, dance, or simply a desire to make mornings smoother for fellow parents to sign up.

As the video continues to circulate online, Coppell residents are proud to see their local school spirit resonating far beyond the city limits, showcasing the power of community‑driven initiatives.
