Aura Maria Leiva, the owner of Sabores Restaurant in Bridgeport and Orange, is organizing a fundraising event to help the victims of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that hit Western Colombia on Monday, killing over 180 people and devastating several cities.
Local Community Comes Together to Support Earthquake Relief Efforts
Leiva, who grew up in Cali, Colombia, one of the worst-hit cities, said her family is safe, but it’s painful to see her childhood home turn to rubble. The fundraiser will feature live music, food for sale, and free games for kids. Leiva emphasized that monetary donations are the best help at this moment.
The Association of Venezuelans in CT (Asoven CT) is also supporting the relief efforts. Dr. Pedro Falcon, vice-president of Asoven CT, explained that the organization felt compelled to help since they recently experienced a similar situation with back-to-back earthquakes that struck Venezuela’s northern region in late June.
Sabores Restaurant will hold the fundraiser on Sunday, August 16 at 200 Boston Post Rd in Orange.
