Every year, companies spend significant amounts of money on artificial intelligence (AI) tools, with some spending over $100,000 per month. However, a recent survey found that nearly 37% of individual contributors either don’t think about the cost of AI usage or don’t know it has a price tag at all.
AI Spending on the Rise
According to a Zapier survey of 715 US professionals, 91% of managers and above say their AI tools are clearly worth the cost, and 86% plan to spend even more over the next 12 months. The survey also found that more than half of organizations now spend over $100,000 per month on tools purchased specifically for their AI capabilities.
The confidence in AI spending is real, but it’s concentrated at the top. Leadership is doubling down on a bet that most of their workforce can’t see, let alone evaluate. This disconnect between boardroom conviction and ground-level awareness is exactly where the AI ROI story gets complicated.
Challenges in AI Adoption
Security, compliance, and governance concerns top the list of challenges that limit the returns on AI spending. Data readiness issues and lack of tool integration are also significant challenges. Despite these challenges, most organizations aren’t second-guessing their direction, with 77% saying they would make the same AI investments again.
