Ahkello Witherspoon, a cornerback for the Washington Commanders, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 31. The team has placed him on the Reserve/Retired List and signed cornerback Fabian Moreau to take his place.

College and NFL Career

Witherspoon played college football at the University of Colorado, where he starred as a defensive back. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and became a key piece in their secondary. Witherspoon started 33 of the 47 games he played with the 49ers, recording 117 tackles and four interceptions.

After four years with the 49ers, Witherspoon signed with the Seattle Seahawks but was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers before suiting up for them. He spent two seasons in Pittsburgh, playing in 13 games and starting seven of them. Witherspoon then signed with the Los Angeles Rams, where he had the best season of his career, starting all 17 games and recording 52 tackles and three interceptions.
