Comal ISD bond measures rejected by voters in early count

Early voting tallies released on November 4 indicate that both components of the proposed $567 million Comal Independent School District bond have been turned down by voters across the five counties that make up the district. The unofficial counts, which include results from Comal, Guadalupe, Bexar, Kendall and Hays counties, show a clear majority against each proposition.

Vote totals show decisive opposition

For Proposition A, which would have allocated $539.95 million toward new facilities, safety upgrades, additional buses, land acquisition and projected growth, approximately 51,546 voters (59.5%) voted “no” while 35,057 voters (40.5%) voted “yes.” Proposition B, earmarked for $27.04 million to fund technology upgrades for students and teachers, received about 51,802 “no” votes (59.7%) and 34,981 “yes” votes (40.3%).

Earlier figures were consistent

Earlier in the evening, a separate set of unofficial numbers reported similar margins: about 39,484 voters (59%) opposed Proposition A and 27,422 (41%) supported it; for Proposition B, 39,793 voters (59.4%) voted against and 27,200 voters (40.6%) voted in favor. The consistency across reporting periods underscores the community’s reluctance to approve the bond at this time.

District officials’ perspective

Comal ISD officials have not issued a formal statement as of press time, but the district’s bond website notes that, should the measures have passed, the bond would not have altered the current property‑tax rate. The district has long projected continued enrollment growth and has argued that the bond would help fund necessary campus expansions and resource enhancements to accommodate that growth.

What the result means for families

For parents and students, the rejection of the bond means that the district will need to explore alternative financing options to address facility needs, safety improvements, transportation capacity and technology upgrades. Community members who value strong schools and safe learning environments may see this as an opportunity for the district to revisit its plans and engage more directly with families on how best to meet future demands without raising taxes.

Next steps

All precincts have reported their numbers, but the results remain unofficial until the canvass is completed. Comal ISD will likely review the voting outcome and consider whether to revise the bond proposal, seek a different funding approach, or prioritize projects based on available resources. Residents interested in staying informed can follow updates on the district’s website and local news outlets.

Community Impact will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as official canvass results become available.
