A traffic safety surge in Colorado Springs, involving the Colorado Springs Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, resulted in 132 traffic stops between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Details of the Operation
The operation, which included 24 police and patrol cruisers as well as a CSP aircraft, was part of a conference for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. The goal was to stop unsafe driving habits and promote traffic safety.
Of the 132 traffic stops, two ended in DUI/DUID arrests, and five other arrests were made. Thirty-one stops were for speeding, and over 20 were for either no proof of valid registration or no proof of a valid driver’s license.
According to officials, there were no crashes in the operation area during the time of the traffic safety surge.
