A nurse aide in Colorado Springs has lost his certification due to an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct with a patient. The Colorado State Board of Nursing made this decision after reviewing evidence, including surveillance video that showed the nurse aide engaging in inappropriate conduct.
Investigation Details
The investigation found that Derek Castillo, the nurse aide in question, had engaged in sexual contact with a patient under his care at Spring Grove Recovery in Colorado Springs. The incident occurred on or about November 8, 2025. Castillo was seen on surveillance video touching the patient in an intimate manner and was later evaluated by Peer Assistance Services, which concluded that he was unable to practice safely as a certified nurse aide.
The Colorado State Board of Nursing determined that Castillo had violated provisions of the Colorado Nurse and Nurse Aide Practice Act, including acting in a manner inconsistent with the health and safety of a patient and being unable to practice safely. The board also cited statutory grounds related to substance abuse and physical or mental disability.
Castillo’s nurse aide certification was revoked, effective June 1. He has 30 days from the date of the order to request a formal hearing to challenge the board’s decision. If no hearing is requested, the revocation becomes final.
