A Colombia soccer fan who was in the United States for the World Cup was arrested last week after leading a police chase in southwestern Iowa. According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on July 3 attempted to pull over a vehicle that was traveling at 90 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 29.
The driver, identified as Nestor Morantes Segura, 33, of Bogota, Colombia, was arrested. He told deputies he did not hear an emergency siren and mistakenly believed he did not need to pull over for only emergency lights. Segura was charged with excessive speeding and eluding.
He was released after posting a cash bond, allowing him to travel to Kansas City to witness the Colombian National Team secure a 1-0 victory over Ghana, advancing his home country to the World Cup Round of 16.
