The Colleyville City Council has approved a $3.6 million budget for the Colleyville Crime Control and Prevention District for fiscal 2027. The budget includes funding for 51 new Tasers and up to $100,000 for two police motorcycles.
Key Budget Items
Assistant Police Chief Hillary Wreay outlined the two new spending priorities, which total about $337,000. The X26P Taser uses cartridges with ranges of 15 to 25 feet and is designed for use from at least 4 feet away. The Taser 10 has a maximum range of 45 feet and can be used at close range.
The new police motorcycles’ mobility, accessibility, and visibility make them ideal for traffic enforcement, crash investigations, and special escorts, according to Wreay.
The budget also continues funding for school resource officers, although spending decreased due to the closure of Bransford Elementary School.
Colleyville voters established the Crime Control and Prevention District in 1999, which is funded by a half-cent local sales tax.
