College Station has provided updates on several major projects, including the development of Texas Independence Park and various road construction initiatives. Jennifer Cain, director of capital projects for the city, outlined the progress of these projects, which include the development of 120 acres of parkland on Rock Prairie Road.
Project Updates
The Texas Independence Park project is set to include trails, a playground, a bike track, disc golf, fishing, and full restrooms, with an anticipated start of construction in summer 2026 and a cost of $25.3 million.
Other projects include improvements to the Lincoln Center area, including a prefabricated restroom building, shade shelter, landscaping, and more accessible sidewalks, with a combined cost of $3.2 million. The construction of a splash pad is still to be determined.
The city also provided updates on the widening of Rock Prairie East, the rehabilitation of James, Puryear, and Francis roads, and the construction of a multilane roundabout at North Dowling Road and Holleman Drive South.
Upcoming Projects
Future projects include the completion of the Fire Station No. 7, the widening of Greens Prairie Road, and the construction of sewer lines as part of the Northeast Trunkline Phases 3 and 4.
College Station has a total of 69 active projects, with many more in the planning stages. The city aims to provide regular updates on the progress of these projects to keep residents informed.
