Cody, Wyoming – Cody Regional Health (CRH) is pleased to welcome Dr. Kyla Carlson, a board‑certified obstetrician and gynecologist, to its Women’s Health department. Dr. Carlson will begin her new role in October, strengthening local access to comprehensive OB/GYN care for women and families throughout the Big Horn Basin.
Experience and expertise
Dr. Carlson brings more than 14 years of experience as an attending physician with Billings OB/Gyn Associates in Billings, Montana, where she cared for high‑risk obstetric cases and performed minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries. She also spent time teaching clinical skills at Rocky Vista University – Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine before returning to full‑time practice.
Her clinical background includes routine and preventive women’s health, prenatal care and deliveries, gynecologic care, and minimally invasive surgery. “Dr. Carlson brings extensive experience, a strong commitment to rural health care and a patient‑centered approach that will be a tremendous addition to our Women’s Health team,” said Cody Regional Health CEO Hannah McRae.
Local roots and education
A Wyoming native who grew up in Wheatland, Dr. Carlson earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming and her Doctor of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. She completed an osteopathic internship at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Spectrum Health/Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Patient‑focused philosophy
Dr. Carlson describes her approach as straightforward, honest and collaborative. She believes patients should understand their condition, care options and the potential risks and benefits of each approach so they can be active participants in decisions about their health. “Caring for patients is a partnership,” she said. “I want to provide clarity while also being compassionate and kind.”
Why Cody Regional Health
For Dr. Carlson, joining CRH offers an opportunity to reconnect professionally with her Wyoming roots while continuing to serve patients throughout the region. She was drawn to the organization’s culture, supportive medical staff and the chance to develop meaningful relationships with patients and families in a smaller community.
Her arrival reinforces an established Women’s Health & Nursery team that provides coordinated care through every stage of life—from routine gynecologic exams and surgery to pregnancy, delivery and ongoing women’s health services.
