FRASER, Mich. – Public safety officials say a 61‑year‑old man from Clinton Township intentionally rammed a police cruiser during a traffic stop on Monday, injuring two officers and prompting a high‑speed chase that ended when his vehicle overturned into a retention pond near Groesbeck and 11 Mile Road.
Incident details
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Gaspare Cracchiolo drove his vehicle into the driver’s‑side door of a Fraser police cruiser as officers attempted to pull him over. One officer reported arm and knee pain, while the other suffered back and leg pain. Both injuries were classified as minor.
After the impact, the officers exited the cruiser and ordered Cracchiolo to stop. He accelerated away, leading officers on a pursuit that covered several miles. The chase concluded when Cracchiolo lost control, sending his vehicle into a retention pond.
Charges and court appearance
Cracchiolo is being held on eight felony counts, including assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting a police officer, and fleeing to avoid arrest. Non‑felony charges include driving while intoxicated and a fourth‑offense habitual offender citation.
The suspect is held on a $1 million cash or surety bond, with no 10 percent reduction. If released, he must wear a GPS monitoring device and abstain from alcohol or drugs. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 13.
Prosecutor’s response
Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido emphasized the importance of protecting law‑enforcement officers, stating, “Public safety is our top priority. We must protect those who put their lives on the line to protect us and ensure that anyone who threatens the safety of our community is held accountable.”
Community impact
The incident underscores the risks faced by local officers who respond to routine traffic stops. Residents of Fraser and the surrounding Macomb County area are reminded that violent resistance to lawful police actions will be met with swift legal consequences.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including any potential impairment, and will keep the public informed as the case proceeds.
