Clevelanders are finding a unique way to release their emotions at Edgewater Beach through the Cleveland Scream Club. The club, run by health coaches Megan Ruggiero and Patric Pariano, offers attendees a chance to practice primal screaming, a personal wellness technique often utilized by followers of yoga and new age spirituality.
What is Primal Scream Therapy?
Primal scream therapy is a way to relieve suppressed pain and trauma. According to Ruggiero, it’s all about getting back in touch with nature and one’s emotions. The therapy sessions start with a brief introduction, followed by somatic body movements and diaphragmatic breathing exercises to loosen up the body, mind, and vocal cords.
The screaming sessions are led by Ruggiero, who hits a gong to signal the start and end of each scream. The screams are meant to last around 30 to 45 seconds, and there are usually three to four scream sessions before the process concludes. The whole event lasts 20 to 25 minutes.
The Cleveland Scream Club is free to attend and meets every Sunday at Edgewater Beach at 6 p.m. For more information, find the Cleveland Scream Club on Facebook or Instagram.
