Cleveland Clinic has launched a prescription drone delivery program in partnership with Zipline. The program allows eligible patients to receive their prescriptions via drone, eliminating the need for a trip to the pharmacy.

How it Works

The process begins when a pharmacy technician places the packaged medication into a secure Zipline drop box. An autonomous drone then retrieves the order and flies to the patient’s address, where it lowers a small delivery pod containing the prescription. The drone remains in the air, eliminating the need for a landing pad.

Patients can track their delivery through a link in the MyChart messaging portal. The service is currently available to patients who participate in Cleveland Clinic’s pharmacy home delivery program and live within a five-mile radius of the Beachwood Administrative Campus.

Expansion Plans

Zipline plans to expand the service to other areas, including Austin, Texas. The company has already delivered tens of millions of medical products worldwide and has partnered with over 5,000 hospitals and health facilities.
