The debate over lane changes on the Clark Memorial Bridge is far from settled. It was discussed on Thursday during the Louisville Forum luncheon on infrastructure. The state is studying a plan to reduce the bridge from four to three lanes, with two heading into Jeffersonville and one coming into Louisville.
Concerns and Delays
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Mayor have pushed back on the proposed changes. A transportation engineer said the state must work with the aging bridge it has, so any lane changes will have to wait. ‘We can’t afford to build a new bridge right now. It is approaching its 100-year birthday here in a few years,’ said Matt Bullock with KYTC. ‘It has structural issues that we need to address first and foremost, and that’s what we will do. Lane reconfiguration right now is not on the table until we can get further down the road with 65 and, again, talk with the people across the river on the best plan forward.’ Bullock said the cabinet has met with INDOT and Jeffersonville officials.
