The Clark County baseball community gathered at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex to honor the region’s top high school players in a memorable all-star game. This event not only marked a celebration of local talent but also served as a heartfelt farewell to senior players who have made significant contributions to their teams.
The evening featured two games: a Futures game for younger players and the traditional Senior All-Star Game. This annual event provides a platform for high school teams and their fans to bid farewell to their graduating seniors, celebrating their achievements on the field.
Landon DeBeaumont of Ridgefield and James Gill of Battle Ground were named the MVPs of the senior game. They were awarded the Cpl. Jeremiah Johnson MVP Scholarship, a tribute to a former Prairie High School graduate and baseball enthusiast who sacrificed his life while serving in Iraq. The scholarship, created by Johnson’s parents, Beth and Dave Johnson, along with the Evergreen Baseball Umpires Association, honors his memory and supports young athletes in their future endeavors.
Following the games, area coaches selected 10 players to represent Southwest Washington at the upcoming all-state baseball games in Yakima, scheduled for June 26-28. The selected players include Teddy Wieczorek of Seton Catholic, Brendon Lawson of Mountain View, Luke Jenisch and Kian Siegel of Columbia River, Blake Sutton of Union, Jase Wong of Skyview, Landon DeBeaumont of Ridgefield, Dalton Woods of Seton Catholic, Cam McCray of Prairie, and Ethan Adams of Battle Ground.
Honoring Local Heroes and Future Stars
The Cpl. Jeremiah Johnson MVP Scholarship not only recognizes athletic excellence but also commemorates the legacy of a local hero. Cpl. Johnson’s dedication to his country and passion for baseball continue to inspire the community, reminding us of the values of service and sportsmanship.
This event underscores the importance of community support in nurturing young talent and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. As these young athletes move forward, they carry with them the spirit of Clark County’s strong community ties and commitment to excellence.
