The Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame has inducted its newest class, recognizing the contributions of funk-disco band Heatwave and the second-oldest Black music radio station in the country, WCIN, to the city’s musical history.
Celebrating Cincinnati’s Musical Heritage
The induction ceremony took place during the Cincinnati Music Festival, which drew an estimated 80,000 attendees over two nights. The event featured concerts and tributes to the inductees, with attendees dressed in white dancing and singing along.
Hamilton County Commissioner Alicia Reece expressed pride in the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame’s five-year journey, noting that people from all over the country come to see the great people who have been inducted. Grammy Award winner Regina Belle, who attended the event with former inductee Shirley Murdock, was honored with the Walk of Fame’s first-ever Legacy Award.
