Hoover, Ala. – On September 13, Church on the Bluff gathered its congregation and community friends to commemorate Pastor Tony Barber’s 20th anniversary of leadership. The morning worship service, followed by a program and fellowship luncheon, highlighted Barber’s enduring commitment to the church family and the broader Hoover community.
Recognition from civic leaders
During the ceremony, Pastor Barber received a letter of recognition from Governor Kay Ivey, presented by Minister of Music Duane Terpo. Hoover Mayor Nick Derzis also honored the pastor with a handwritten note, underscoring the close partnership between the church and local government.
The Birmingham Metro Baptist Association presented a special commendation, acknowledging Barber’s two‑decade impact on spiritual growth, outreach, and community service. “Pastor Tony has been a cornerstone of our church family for twenty years,” said Duane Terpo. “His heart for ministry, unwavering faith and deep commitment to serving others have left an indelible mark on all of us.”
Two decades of ministry
Since arriving at Church on the Bluff in 2004, Pastor Barber has overseen numerous initiatives that support families, youth, and seniors. Under his guidance, the church expanded its children’s ministry, a program led by his wife, Angie Barber, who volunteers as a teacher and mentor for the youngest members of the congregation.
Barber’s leadership has also emphasized outreach beyond the sanctuary walls. He has organized food drives, partnered with local shelters, and coordinated volunteer teams to assist during emergencies, reflecting the church’s commitment to serving the Hoover community in practical ways.
Luncheon fellowship
Following the program, attendees moved to the fellowship hall for a luncheon.
