Boise families and veterans are invited to the 16th annual Chrome at the Home on Sunday, September 27. The event, organized by the Boise Valley POW/MIA organization, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Home, 320 N. Collins Road.
Event details and new location
Because of construction at the Veterans Home, the Show & Shine will take place in the parking lot directly across the street. Motorcycle parking opens at 9 a.m., and opening ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public; no entry fee is required for any motorcycle that wishes to participate.
Veterans’ Choice award
While a People’s Choice award is common at similar shows, the highlight of Chrome at the Home is the Veterans’ Choice award. Residents of the home walk outside, view the motorcycles, and vote for their favorite. Their selection reflects the gratitude and camaraderie shared between the veterans and the community.
How the money helps
All proceeds from the day go directly to improving the quality of life for residents of the Idaho State Veterans Home. Funds support simple comforts such as haircuts and canteen purchases, as well as larger outings like baseball games, fishing trips, and local races. These activities provide vital social interaction for veterans, many of whom have limited family contact.
Remembering Idaho’s missing service members
The event also honors eight Idaho families still awaiting answers for loved ones listed as missing in action from the Vietnam War. According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, those service members hailed from Boise, Pocatello, Paul, Grace, Sandpoint, Lewiston, and Carey. The phrase “You Are Not Forgotten” remains a central theme of the day.
Family-friendly activities
After the opening ceremonies, a free barbecue will be served. Attendees can also enjoy a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and the chance to meet and shake hands with veterans. No motorcycle ownership or veteran status is required—anyone interested in seeing the bikes, sharing a meal, or simply listening to veterans’ stories is welcome.Organizer and longtime volunteer Mike Jensen will serve as MC for the second consecutive year. Jensen, who has been involved with the Boise Valley POW/MIA organization for more than two decades, emphasizes that the event’s true purpose is to support the veterans, not the motorcycles.
