Filmmaker Christopher Nolan shared insights into his movie, ‘The Odyssey’, during an interview with Griff Jenkins on Fox News Channel’s FOX & Friends Weekend. Following the success of his previous film ‘Oppenheimer’, Nolan turned to ancient Greek mythology to bring the classic epic poem to the IMAX screen.
Nolan’s Inspiration
Nolan explained that his decision to adapt the 3,000-year-old story stemmed from a desire to find unique cultural opportunities and push his boundaries as a director. ‘You’re always looking for a gap in the culture as a filmmaker,’ Nolan said. ‘You’re looking for something that you can challenge yourself with and you bring something new to the audience hopefully.’
To appeal to a broad demographic, including younger viewers, the film features a high-profile cast that includes Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Matt Damon in the lead role of Odysseus. Nolan emphasized that the source material naturally resonates across eras. ‘The thing about Homer is, you know, it touches on timeless things, universal truths and everything. And so, I think it’s fascinated cultures for 3,000 years because each generation can find its relevance,’ Nolan stated.
