Atkins recalled how his drinking problem cost him the lead role in the 1984 film ‘Footloose,’ which ultimately went to Kevin Bacon. He stated that he was ‘a mess’ at the time and had been partying too much, which led to him blowing the audition.
Atkins also reflected on his breakout role in ‘The Blue Lagoon’ and how it changed his life. He was just 18 when he was cast in the film opposite Brooke Shields and had no prior acting experience.
Overcoming Addiction
Atkins has been sober for almost 40 years and has no regrets about his career choices. He has been blessed to have worked on over 100 movies and television shows and is now focused on creating his own film projects.
