Three Chinese airlines have placed a combined order for 95 Airbus aircraft, with a total list price of approximately $17.8 billion. The order is part of the airlines’ efforts to expand their fleets and modernize with more fuel-efficient jets.
Air China and Shenzhen Airlines Orders
Air China and its unit Shenzhen Airlines will purchase 55 Airbus aircraft for a total list price of $12.4 billion. Air China will buy 15 A350-900 wide-body jets, while Shenzhen Airlines will purchase 40 narrow-body A320neo-family aircraft.
Hainan Airlines has also agreed to purchase 40 A320neo-family jets for a list price of up to $5.4 billion. The A350-900 jets are scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2032, while the A320neo family aircraft are slated for delivery between 2029 and 2032.
Industry Context
The orders come as Chinese carriers continue to rebuild and expand their fleets following the pandemic. Other Chinese carriers have also been placing large orders with Airbus, including China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.
