Startup Robotera demonstrated a parcel‑sorting humanoid torso on a wheeled tripod, boasting a continuous run time of 900‑1,000 hours and an efficiency rating of about 85% of a human worker.
Competitive landscape
The rapid expansion mirrors China’s earlier electric‑vehicle boom, with many firms entering the market almost overnight. Zhang Guibing, head of AiMOGA Robotics at Chery, said the intense competition is beneficial, driving deeper technological development.
Global shipments of humanoid robots nearly quadrupled in the first half of the year to 19,100 units, with Chinese manufacturers leading the market, according to Smart Analytics Global. However, analyst Georg Stieler estimates that 50%‑70% of this year’s output may end up in “data factories” for training purposes rather than serving paying customers.
Industry observers note that while costs are falling, widespread adoption could still take a decade, and competition on price is expected to intensify.
