Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is unlikely to play in the team’s preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, according to head coach Andy Reid. Mahomes is working his way back after undergoing surgery to repair tears to the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Recovery and Preseason Plans

Reid stated that the chances of Mahomes playing in the preseason are low, citing the need for other quarterbacks to get reps. The Chiefs have Justin Fields, rookie Garrett Nussmeier, and Chris Oladokun on their roster. Mahomes sustained the injury in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14, which eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention.
