Chicago’s Black Cowboys Host Father’s Day Rodeo

The 37th annual Speed and Action Rodeo Horse Show is coming to the South Shore Cultural Center on Father’s Day. The event, hosted by the Broken Arrow Riding Club, will feature rodeo events, horse showmanship, food, and vendors.

Community Event

The Father’s Day affair will expose kids and other residents to a cowboy culture that runs deep in Chicago. Broken Arrow founder Murdock said he wants to bring the cowboy lifestyle to the inner city so people can learn and participate.

The horse rodeo differs from a traditional rodeo, which includes roughstock events like bull riding and steer wrestling. The Broken Arrow Riding Club, founded in 1989, is one of Chicago’s oldest clubs for Black horseback riders, with a network of over 1,000 riders.

Tickets to the all-day event are $18 for adults and $15 for children and older people. Doors open at 1 p.m.
