Chicago is experiencing an extreme heat wave, with temperatures reaching 92 degrees at O’Hare International Airport and a heat index of 100 degrees. Despite the heat, Chicagoans are going about their daily lives, with some finding ways to stay cool.
Staying Safe in the Heat
Mayor Brandon Johnson held a press conference to advise residents on how to stay safe during the heat wave. He encouraged people to stay hydrated and stay inside with air conditioning if possible. The city has also set up cooling centers for those seeking refuge from the heat.
Some residents, like postal worker Semaj Reid, are still working outside in the heat. Reid said he is used to the heat and takes precautions to stay safe, including drinking plenty of water and taking breaks in the shade.
Others, like ice cream vendor Olegario Rosas, are finding ways to make the most of the hot weather. Rosas said he gets more customers on hot days, but it can be challenging to work in the heat.
The heat wave is expected to continue through Wednesday, with temperatures possibly reaching 105 degrees. Residents are advised to take precautions to stay safe, including staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day.
