The Chicago City Council’s Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards has approved several new housing developments across the city. Two large developments in Avondale and McKinley Park, which include both apartments and townhomes, were given the green light on Tuesday.
Avondale Development
The Avondale proposal, located at 3231-65 N. California Ave, will feature 105 housing units, including 40 townhomes and 65 apartments. The $65 million plan was downsized from a previous proposal of 152 units due to concerns over density, parking, and traffic. The development will include 107 parking spaces and 21 units for families at below-market rates.
McKinley Park Development
In McKinley Park, a similar development is planned for 3033 S. Justine St, near the Ashland Orange Line station. The project will include one commercial building with retail space and two residential apartment buildings with a total of 199 units, plus nine townhomes. Forty-two units will be earmarked as affordable in line with city regulations.
Other developments were also approved, including a hotel-to-residential conversion in Streeterville and an apartment building in East Garfield Park. The zoning committee’s decisions must still be approved by the full City Council.
