The Slice of Chicago 5K, a pizza-themed run, was set to take place on July 12 at Soldier Field in Chicago. However, the event’s organizers announced a last-minute date change to October 3 due to delays in the shipment of finisher medals.
Runners React to the Change
Many runners expressed frustration with the sudden change, citing conflicts with other races and events on the same date. Some runners also questioned the decision to postpone the event rather than allowing participants to receive their medals at a later date.
The event’s organizers, Windy City Events Management, stated that they had been monitoring the shipment closely and had considered alternative options, such as flying staff to retrieve the medals. However, they ultimately decided to postpone the event to ensure that participants received a complete experience.
The Chicago Park District did not respond to requests for comment on how the two events would operate on the same day in the same location.
