Chatham County has a new sheriff. Steve Maynor took the oath of office during a ceremony at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center surrounded by family, deputies, elected officials, and community members.

State Representative Robert Reives administered the oath, and Maynor’s wife, Adrian, pinned on his sheriff’s badge. Maynor has spent more than 20 years with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, most recently serving as chief deputy since 2023.
After Maynor was sworn in, deputies and the entire sheriff’s office also took oaths of office. Maynor said the sheriff’s office will continue to focus on community engagement and building trust. “Together, we will continue building on the strong foundation that’s already been laid, moving this sheriff’s office forward together,” Maynor said at the ceremony.
