Charlotte Patricia Grunhard, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas, died peacefully on November 1, 2026. Born in Chicago on November 4, 1937, Charlotte spent a remarkable life serving others as a registered nurse and dedicated volunteer.
Life of Service and Family
Charlotte graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and earned her nursing degree at South Chicago Community Hospital School of Nursing. Her nursing career spanned many decades, during which she cared for countless patients with compassion and skill.
In 1960 she married Charles Grunhard, and together they built a family that included children Thaddeus, Mary Christine, and Christen. Charlotte was a devoted mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother and sister, cherishing time with her children Daniel (Tonnie) and Timothy (Sarah), grandchildren Savannah, CJ, Cailey, Colin, Scarlett and Cassie, and great‑grandchildren Ace, Wade and Isla.
Community Involvement
Beyond her professional work, Charlotte was an avid bridge player, accomplished artist, and beloved dog‑mother to Coco. She volunteered for many years with Birthright of Kansas City, supporting families in need. Her commitment to service extended to her later years, where she received compassionate care from Avenue 81 Senior Living and St. Luke’s Hospice.
Places She Called Home
Charlotte’s life took her across the country, living in Chicago, Illinois; Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; Mountain Home, Arkansas; Port Orange, Florida; Prairie Village, Kansas; and finally Overland Park, Kansas, where she settled with her family.
Final Arrangements
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 12 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Prairie Village, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Charlotte will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck” Grunhard, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Charlotte’s memory to Birthright of Kansas City, an organization she supported throughout her life.
Friends, neighbors, and medical staff who stood by Charlotte in her final years are deeply appreciated for their companionship and care.
