Charlie Woods Secures Spot in U.S. Junior Amateur After Playoff Victory

Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of renowned golfer Tiger Woods, has successfully qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur. This achievement came after a tense 3-for-1 playoff at the Heathrow Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida, where Woods emerged victorious. Competing against Eric Zhao from Canada and Nathan Erickson from Orlando, Woods secured the fifth and final qualifying spot.

Woods, hailing from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, will now advance to the U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled to take place at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, from July 20-25. This marks a significant milestone for the young golfer, who previously did not make the cut in the 2024 and 2025 tournaments held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan and Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, respectively.

The U.S. Junior Amateur has a storied history, with Tiger Woods himself being the only three-time champion, having won consecutively in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Other notable past winners include Jordan Spieth, who won twice, as well as Johnny Miller, David Duval, and Scottie Scheffler.

In the same qualifier event at Heathrow, David Kim from Marriottsville, Maryland; Phillip Dunham from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and Alexander Pendry from Orlando shared medalist honors with scores of 5-under-par 66. Arnold Pouncy from St. Cloud, Florida, finished fourth with a score of 67.
