A preliminary hearing was held for Tyler Robinson, the 23-year-old man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The hearing, which took place in a Provo, Utah courtroom, saw prosecutors present evidence against Robinson, including surveillance footage and alleged messages from Robinson that prosecutors describe as a confession.
Key Evidence Presented
Prosecutors played surveillance footage that allegedly showed Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus four times in the hours before and after Kirk was killed. They also presented a videotaped interview with Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, who testified that Robinson expressed regret over the shooting.
Twiggs also described finding a note from Robinson, which was entered into evidence and read aloud in court. The note read, in part, ‘If you are reading this per my text, then I am so sorry. I left the house this morning on a mission, and set an auto text. I am likely dead, or facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.’
Prosecutors also displayed the results from ballistics and DNA testing, which they argue links Robinson to the alleged murder weapon: a Mauser Model 98 .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near campus.
