Charges Recommended in Oklahoma City Street Racing Crash That Killed Two

In a tragic incident over Memorial Day weekend, Oklahoma City police have recommended charges against Felix Santiesteban Acosta following a street racing crash that left two people dead. The crash occurred just after midnight on May 24 near Northwest 39th Expressway and Portland Avenue. Police found Acosta lying next to his vehicle, a Dodge Challenger, at the scene.

Details of the Incident

Witnesses reported seeing two cars racing in the area when the Challenger, driven by Acosta, collided with another vehicle not involved in the race. The impact was severe, resulting in multiple occupants being ejected from their vehicle. The affected car carried seven people, including three adults and four children.

Tragically, Cecilia Vasquez and one child were pronounced dead at the scene. Another adult suffered a brain bleed and was admitted to the ICU, while a second child was hospitalized in critical condition.

Legal Proceedings

Acosta initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to having seven beers and a shot, stating he felt tipsy. The arrest affidavit recommends several charges against him, including two counts of second-degree murder, aggravated DUI, driving without a valid license, and reckless driving. The affidavit did not provide details about the other driver allegedly involved in the race. Acosta’s next court date is yet to be determined.
