The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is in the final stages of a significant infrastructure project on Highway 67 in Woodland Park, aiming for completion by Father’s Day. This $7.2 million initiative, which began in March 2025, focuses on widening and improving drainage over a nearly three-mile stretch between US 24 and the Kelley’s Road/Stone Ridge Drive intersection.
Project Details and Progress
Currently, traffic is limited to one lane in each direction on the highway’s west side, as most construction activities are occurring on the opposite side. Wayne Pittman, a CDOT resident engineer, explained that crews are now connecting new stormwater lines and drains, followed by laying a new base and pavement where old materials were removed. Despite initial delays due to wet weather last spring and summer, the project has progressed well thanks to unusually dry conditions since then.
CDOT is keen to finalize the work before the traditional monsoon season begins, ensuring the highway is ready for increased weather challenges. The project has involved cutting down trees along the highway and has impacted some nearby businesses. However, operators of a local campground noted that the construction was less disruptive than anticipated, partly due to the helpfulness of construction workers in managing traffic flow.
Community Impact
The completion of this project is expected to enhance traffic safety and efficiency in the area, benefiting local residents and businesses alike. As the project nears its conclusion, the community looks forward to improved infrastructure that supports daily commutes and local commerce.
