CCBC President Retiring After 22 Years

Sandra L. Kurtinitis, Ph.D. has announced that after more than two decades of leading Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), she will step down as president effective July 31, 2027. Starting on August 1, 2027, Kurtinitis will begin a one-year sabbatical before officially retiring on July 31, 2028.

Legacy of Leadership

Kurtinitis has been president of CCBC since 2005. During her tenure, she focused on access, workforce development, and student success. She oversaw the merger of three community colleges into one institution that has gained a national reputation for excellence.

CCBC has grown significantly under her leadership, serving more than 50,000 students annually and increasing the economic impact of the college in the region. She championed the establishment of an Honors College, strengthened transfer and workforce pathways, increased dual enrollment opportunities, and built partnerships with employers and community organizations.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Kurtinitis for her extraordinary leadership and lasting impact on CCBC,” said board chair Richard Scheper. “The board will launch a comprehensive national search to identify CCBC’s next president and ensure a smooth and successful transition.”
