A yearling bear was found in a residential garage in east Casper on Friday evening, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The bear, which appeared to have recently been weaned, was likely looking for new territory after being kicked out by its mother.
Game and Fish Public Information Officer Janet Milek stated that the bear was “incredibly scared and hiding” in the garage. This behavior is not unusual for young bears looking for a new home, as they often end up in places they shouldn’t be.
The bear was immobilized and safely relocated by the Game and Fish Department. Milek noted that while this occurrence is unusual for homeowners, it’s not uncommon for bears, with a few similar incidents happening every year.
