Casper, WY – A 20-year-old Casper man, Camden James Martinez, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated assault and battery. Martinez is accused of firing a semi-automatic rifle at a vehicle with three people inside as it drove away from his house in Paradise Valley on June 8.

Incident Details

According to Detective Megan Dovala’s affidavit, the three people in the vehicle reported that they had gone to Martinez’s house to pick up a friend who had sent a Snapchat message saying she was in a bad situation. As they drove away, Martinez allegedly fired three shots at the vehicle, shattering the back windshield and striking the rear bumper.

Police found three 10 mm shell casings at the scene, which were consistent with the gun having been fired toward the vehicle as it drove away. A woman who was in the home at the time of the incident reported seeing Martinez fire at the vehicle from the middle of the street.

Martinez is also facing a charge of felony theft for the semi-automatic rifle, which was allegedly found hidden in the propane tank area of a backyard grill. The rifle had been reported stolen in South Dakota.

Martinez’s defense counsel requested a reduction in his $75,000 cash-only bond so that he could attend a treatment program in Idaho, but the request was denied by Judge Josh Eames. Martinez remains in custody and faces potential jail time for a misdemeanor probation that the state has moved to revoke.
