The city of Casper, Wyoming, celebrated America’s 250th birthday with a special 250th Celebration Lighting Ceremony. The event was part of the First Thursday Art Walk, which featured various American-themed foods and activities for kids.
Art Walk and Lighting Ceremony
The Art Walk began at ART 321, which debuted its newest exhibit, ‘Underneath it All,’ inspired by the biology of fungi. The exhibit featured work by Jenny Dowd, Jessican Scherden, and Robert Deurloo. Professional saxophonist Adam Tese played at the David Street Station, dazzling listeners with his music.
Other businesses, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops opened their doors to art walkers. At 8 p.m., community members gathered at 2nd Street to witness the 250th Celebration Lighting Ceremony. The ceremony featured live music, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and various readings, including sections of the Declaration of Independence.
DDA Chairman Bill Lyons said the event was designed to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and the history of Casper itself. The whole project, from conception to completion, took about four months. Lyons shared that the DDA was looking for a new project to work on, and the lighting of downtown Casper seemed like the perfect project.
Community Celebration
The event saw countless supporters dancing, laughing, singing, and swaying. The night culminated with a countdown, and when the lights turned back on, the crowd erupted in applause. Lyons said the DDA is continuing to work for the community, finding ways to improve and attract visitors to downtown Casper.
