Cascades East Transit (CET) is encouraging residents of Central Oregon to explore public transportation through its ‘Try Transit Week,’ running from June 1 to June 5. This initiative offers free rides during peak commute hours on Bend fixed routes and Redmond Flex Routes A and B, specifically from 6:00–8:00 a.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m.
The week-long event aims to introduce the community to the benefits of public transit, including reduced traffic congestion, lower transportation costs, and increased independence for those who do not drive. Andrea Wasilew, Outreach & Engagement Administrator at CET, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, ‘Central Oregon is growing quickly, and more people are looking for affordable and convenient ways to get around.’
Community Engagement and Events
Throughout ‘Try Transit Week,’ CET will host a variety of pop-up events at locations such as Hawthorne Station, the Redmond Transit Hub, and the COCC Bend Campus. These events will feature free ice cream, games, and raffle prizes, including monthly and annual bus passes. Additionally, there will be rider selfie challenges with CET trucker hats as rewards, and special transit pass promotions.
The schedule of events includes a kickoff in Bend on June 1, followed by pop-ups in Redmond and Bend on June 2, events at the Farmers Market and the new Central Library in Bend on June 3, a community day in Redmond and a gathering in Bend on June 4, and a final celebration with raffle drawings on June 5.
For more details on the events and promotions, residents are encouraged to visit the Cascades East Transit Try Transit Week Page or contact customer service at (541) 385-8680.
