Montgomery, Ala. – On Saturday, Nov. 7, the CASA River Region will hold its annual Superhero 5K and Fun Run at Montgomery Whitewater, inviting local families to lace up their shoes, don a cape and support children in foster care.
Event details and schedule
The morning begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration and a brief welcome at the Whitewater park located at 1100 Maxwell Blvd., the same venue used last year. The fun run for kids and families starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the competitive 5K race at 9:15 a.m. An awards ceremony and festival will kick off at 10:15 a.m., featuring medals, capes and a team‑trophy division for groups that register together.
Why the run matters
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the River Region is a nonprofit that trains community volunteers to serve as advocates for abused, neglected or abandoned children involved in family and juvenile court proceedings. By ensuring a child’s voice is heard, CASA volunteers help protect the best interests of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Executive Director Charity Alpert told Action 8’s Estee Morrison that the Superhero Run is more than a race; it is a chance for Montgomery residents to demonstrate tangible support for foster‑care children and to raise public awareness about the ongoing need for volunteers.
How to get involved
Anyone can participate—runners of all ages, families looking for a fun morning out, or community groups seeking a team‑building experience. Registration is handled online through RunSignup.com, where participants can select individual or team entries, choose a cape size and indicate any special accommodations.
Local businesses have already pledged support, and the event will feature a modest festival with food vendors, music and information booths where attendees can learn more about volunteering with CASA.
Community impact
Funds raised from registration fees, sponsorships and donations go directly to CASA’s advocacy programs, helping to recruit, train and retain volunteers who serve in Montgomery County’s family courts. The organization reports that each volunteer advocate can positively influence the outcome of dozens of cases each year, providing stability and a brighter future for children who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
By turning a simple 5K into a superhero‑themed celebration, CASA hopes to inspire the next generation of community leaders—parents, teachers, clergy and business owners—to step up and become advocates for children who need a voice.
What to bring
Participants should wear comfortable running shoes, bring water, and consider a light jacket for early‑morning temperatures. Capes will be provided on site, and a photo backdrop will allow families to capture their heroic moments.
