CASA of DuPage County Welcomes New Executive Director Mattie Colan

CASA of DuPage County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for children who have experienced abuse and neglect, has announced a leadership transition. Suzanne Skala, who has served as Executive Director for nearly six years, retired on April 30, 2026. Under her leadership, the organization strengthened its community partnerships and elevated its advocacy for vulnerable children.

Leadership Transition

Mattie Colan has been appointed as the new Executive Director. Colan brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership, particularly in working with children and families. Her background as a former CASA volunteer provides her with a deep understanding of the organization’s mission and the critical role it plays in the lives of children facing abuse and neglect.

“Working with volunteers in our community who are dedicated to providing a voice for children experiencing abuse and neglect is such a privilege,” Colan stated. “Collaboration is key to successfully supporting the families we serve, and it is an honor to be a small part of that. I am honored to join CASA of DuPage County and continue the important work of advocating for children and supporting volunteers who stand beside them.”

Impact and Future Goals

Scott Drumheller, President of the CASA Board, expressed gratitude for Skala’s contributions and enthusiasm for Colan’s appointment. “We are deeply grateful for Suzanne’s leadership and lasting contributions,” Drumheller said. “We are thrilled to welcome Mattie, whose passion for our mission and commitment to the children we serve will help guide the organization to even greater impact.”

During a transition period, Skala and Colan will work together to ensure continuity for the children, volunteers, and community partners served by the organization. CASA of DuPage County remains committed to recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer advocates who represent each child’s best interests in court and the community.
