James Carville, a veteran Democratic strategist, argued that former President Joe Biden’s refusal to drop out of the 2024 election earlier caused lasting damage to the Democratic Party. Carville made the comments on his ‘Politics War Room’ podcast, stating that had Biden gotten out in October 2023, the Democrats would have a president now.
Carville’s Comments
Carville has spoken previously about how the Democratic Party’s association with far-left identity politics has clung to its reputation like a foul ‘stench.’ He also criticized the party’s handling of the rising faction of democratic socialists, saying he doesn’t know how to treat them. CNN senior analyst Ron Brownstein suggested that the center of the party needs to show it has learned from the past and is committed to fighting the MAGA movement with greater energy to win in 2028.
Carville argued that Democrats lost because people wanted a change election, and they didn’t give it to them. He believes that if there had been any kind of choice, the Democrats would have won the election, and it wouldn’t have been close. Brownstein replied that he’s not certain the Democrats could have won even if Biden got out, but there’s no question that him staying in reduced their chances further.
