CARTHAGE, Texas – Two East Texas cities, Carthage and Marshall, are hosting a friendly blood drive competition to help boost critically low summer blood supplies. The ‘Mash Bash’ blood drive started Wednesday and will wrap up at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The two-day event is taking place at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in Carthage and the Convention Center in Marshall. Organizers say the goal is to collect 50 units of blood a day from each location.
According to Dakota Burkham of Carter Blood Care, ‘During the summer, we were missing about 25% of what we usually collect because we collect 25% of blood supply from our high schools.’ One blood donation can save up to three lives.
