Carry The Load March in Dallas Honors Fallen Through Storms

In Dallas, the Carry The Load Memorial March faced interruptions from storms and lightning on Sunday, but the spirit of remembrance persevered. Participants gathered to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our nation, with many choosing to continue marching through the rain.

Local Stories of Sacrifice

American flags lined the Katy Trail, accompanied by photos of young faces who gave their lives in service. Among them was the image of Brandon Lee Stout, who was killed in Iraq in 2007 at the age of 23. His widow, Audrey Barber, shared her late husband’s wish for her to find happiness and move forward, a promise she carries with her family today.

Audrey’s daughter, Celany, though never having met her mother’s first husband, expressed a deep understanding of the march’s significance. ‘I saw a picture of many pictures of my mommy’s first husband, and I really want to do this with her,’ she said, highlighting the importance of keeping memories alive.

A Growing Tradition

Carry The Load began 15 years ago with a few hundred participants and has since grown to include thousands nationwide. The march serves as a reminder of the loss and sacrifice made for our country, with participants like Matt Fryman emphasizing the daily impact of such losses on families.

Despite the storm, many chose to continue marching, symbolizing the enduring burden of carrying the memory of fallen loved ones. Audrey Barber noted the importance of remembering the fallen, saying, ‘I thought it was really important to remember the fallen, saying their name, remembering that they were here, remembering the legacy that they left behind.’

Continuing the Tribute

After the storm passed, the event resumed with a silent midnight walk planned for Sunday night and a closing ceremony on Monday morning. The dedication of participants, even in adverse weather, underscores the profound respect and gratitude felt for those who have given their lives in service to the nation.
