Capitol Hill businesses are coming together to create a new community event, Third Saturdays on 13th, to encourage locals to stay in the neighborhood and support independent businesses. Erica Pike, communications manager at Wax Trax Records, noted that there is a natural flow of customers in the area, and the businesses want to capitalize on that by making it official.

The five locations participating in the inaugural event on August 15 will offer special events and discounts. Andrea Malcomb, director of the Molly Brown House Museum, said that the area has a unique culture that people need to explore, with many one-of-a-kind businesses and landmarks. Josh Epps, owner of Jelly Cafe, agrees that Capitol Hill is the “quirky heart of Denver” and that the new identity of 13th Avenue is still being determined.
