Canyon Lake is preparing for a busy Fourth of July weekend, with three boat ramps open to the public and a professional fireworks show on the lake.
Boat Ramps and Fireworks
The boat ramps at Canyon Park, Canyon Lake Marina, and Jacob’s Creek Park are all open, with a limited amount of parking available for boat trailers. The marina’s general manager, Angela Tobin, anticipates a busy weekend and advises revelers to arrive early to secure a spot.
A mid-lake fireworks show, ‘Liberty on the Lake,’ will take place on the evening of July 4, with Comal Park and Canyon Park offering free entry after 7:30 p.m. The fireworks show is expected to be a first of its kind for Canyon Lake, with Wes Walker, operations manager for the Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County, promising a huge and awesome display.
Safety Precautions
With the lake’s water level still relatively low, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger Philip Anderson is warning boaters to be cautious, especially in areas with new navigational hazards such as trees below the surface. Anderson advises boaters to stay in the main body of the lake and avoid the coves, where the majority of hazards are likely to be found.
